69. Frederic Patenaude Interview

Welcome to the Love Fruit Podcast.  Today we have an interview I have been waiting on for a while.  This episode we interview raw food legend Frederic Patenaude.

Frederic Patenaude is a health author, activist and blogger. He’s been writing and publishing about health and nutrition since the age of 18. He started seriously researching personal and preventative natural health therapies when he was struck with the reality that heart disease ran deep in his family and if he didn’t change the way he was living — he might go down that same path. After trying a raw food diet for many years, he eventually found a more sustainable approach that incorporates the best of the traditions of raw foods, vegetarianism and the latest in clinical nutrition.

He is the author of several books including Raw Food Controversies. Frederic lives in the province of Quebec, Canada, but is a world traveler who has visited over 35 countries and continues reaching people from every continent with his health message.

Eva Loves Raw – Love Fruit Podcast Interview 35

In this episode I interview Eva from Eva Loves Raw. I met Eva and her family at the Woodstock Fruit Festival a number of times and they were kind enough to invite me to stay with them when I was in Florida.

She sticks to her 100% raw vegan diet and coaches others towards better health on a raw and plant based lifestyle.

In this interview we talk about her journey to a raw vegan diet and her initial training at the Hippocrates Health Institute. We also talk about her finding her own way of eating a raw vegan diet after trying many different paths.

She also talks about balancing her family life with her raw vegan path as her family do not always eat raw vegan food with her.

Eva is a great example to others who are looking to balance their family life, their work and their raw vegan lifestyle. Find out more about Eva at:

Love Fruit Podcast Episode 9 – Interview with Ellen Livingston

“Then in 2002, I learned of a natural, uncooked diet of fresh fruits and vegetables. After nearly 20 years of nutrition study, and as many years of suffering, the first book I read about a raw diet gave me the biggest “aha” moments of my life . . . I knew I had found some real answers, some core truths I was seeking. The very next day I adopted a raw vegan diet, and I have never turned back because I love the benefits so much.”

– Ellen Livingston

In this interview we speak to author, coach and speaker Ellen Livingston about her journey to a raw vegan diet. In particular she speaks about the importance of her spiritual journey and the connection between this and her health.

Ellen runs retreats and communities focused around raw foods, yoga and a healthier way of life. She has been a key speaker at the Woodstock Fruit Festival since it’s inception.

(VIDEO) Detox Truth With Dr Doug Graham

(VIDEO) Detox Truth With Dr Doug Graham

In the raw food community, a lot of misinformation has been spread over the years.  One of the main people that has worked to clear up some of these misguided ideas is Dr Doug Graham.

We often hear people talk about “detoxing” about “cleansing” about getting rid of the toxins and junk inside them.  In this video, Dr Graham points out that we can never rid ourselves fully of toxaemia.  But if our level of toxaemia is below the toleration level then symptons will not arise.

Feel free to share a comment on the video and share it with others.  You can find more about Dr Doug Graham at foodnsport.com or you search for the articles and videos with him on this site.

Fruitarians Featured In The News Worldwide

Fruitarians Featured In The News Worldwide

You may have seen that a Fruitarian couple have been featured a lot online recently.

Simon and Tina, from Fit Shortie Eats on Youtube,  and also @fit_shortie_eats on Instagram have been written about in the Daily Mail online, the Sun, The India Times, The Metro as well as other media sources.

Their story has been shared  in slightly different ways but mostly focuses on the fact that they have eaten “nothing but fruit” for 3 years.

The Daily Mail goes with the headline:

“Couple who’ve eaten nothing but FRUIT for three years claim their extreme diet makes them ‘feel high’ – and say it helps with weight loss and anti-ageing”

You can read more of it HERE

Whereas The Sun goes with:

“Couple who claim they’ve eaten nothing but FRUIT for three years say extreme diet makes them ‘feel high’ – and they no longer brush teeth as ‘fibre cleans them’”

Which you can read HERE

The Couple’s Story

The story is that Tina, from Poland found the Fruitarian diet after doing a pre-Christmas cleanse.  She was happy with her results and to fully commit to the lifestyle she decided to move to Bali to get away from the temptations she had at home and also to discover more exotic fruits.

Simon moved to Bali partly inspired by Tina’s instagram posts and they later met and eventually started a relationship.

They have grown a large following online and are inspiring a lot of people with their story.  It is fantastic to see more Fruitarians getting out there with a positive message.  It also goes to show that the media and people in general, are very interested and curious in stories about the Fruitarian diet.

Perhaps more Fruitarians should be trying to get their story out to the world like this?

The Fruitarian Diet And Teeth

They claim not to have brushed their teeth in years yet their teeth have been better than ever. Tina says:

“When you eat whole fruit the fibre in the fruit cleans out your teeth. I don’t brush my teeth either.

“When I went for a check-up after three years, the dentist called two other dentists to show my teeth to them – my teeth were in such good condition she couldn’t believe it.

“But please don’t try this with dried fruit – as this sticks to your teeth and makes them rot.”

Tina makes a great point about dried fruit.  A lot of people have had problems with their teeth eating fruit but many have potentially had these problems coming from dried fruit, like dates, rather than fresh, juicy fruit.

Still, to limit and potential problems with teeth, it is generally recommended that you have a discussion with your dentist about the state of your teeth and continue to practise good dental hygiene.

Where Can You Learn More?

You can learn more about the couple by searching for the Youtube channel “Fit Shortie Eats” on Youtube or following Tina on instagram: @fit_shortie_eats.

Get Paid To Eat Avocado

A recent article published on the Boston Globe website is claiming that there is a new study in which participants will be paid to eat an avocado every day for 6 months.

You can read that article here: https://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/2018/08/30/holy-guacamole-tufts-study-you-can-get-paid-eat-avocados/40xYLGf66YNKtRhpyVKZgP/story.html

The study seeks to discover what is the effect on body weight of a person consuming one avocado per day.  Most people would assume that as avocados are high in calories and fat that naturally they will make a person gain weight. However, some information suggests this may not be the case.

This topic has been covered somewhat in this video by NutritionFacts youtube channel:

It has been found that avocado eaters are healthier and slimmer, however the question is whether that is anything to do with the avocados themselves or whether it is an indication that avocado eaters generally have a healthier diet.

It appears there has been no conclusive study on this yet, so it will be interesting to see the results.

Four American Universities have teamed up to enroll 1000 people into the trial, called the “Habitual Diet and Avocado Trial”.

If you are anywhere near Tufts University, Loma Linda University, Pennsylvania State University, or University of California, Los Angeles perhaps you can get involved and get free avocado for 6 months!
